World of Outlaws Late Model Series returns to Independence August 6

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – For the second consecutive year, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will invade Independence Motor Speedway. The event, which pays $10,000 to the winner, will be held Monday, August 6, and is the only Iowa stop for the series this season.

The nation’s top touring Late Model drivers will compete through time trials and qualifying races for a spot in the Dirt Late Model Magazine 50. Josh Richards beat 2011 series champion Rick Eckert to the checkers in the series’ first-ever visit to the speedway last August.

The tire rule for the August 6 event, which differs from last season, will be 20/30/40/1600 (no white dots)/55.

In addition to the Late Models, IMCA Modifieds will compete for a $1,000 winner’s share in the Dirt Modified Magazine 25. The draw/redraw event, which is a Fast Shafts All-Star Qualifier for the 2013 IMCA Super Nationals, pays $200 to start.

The Modifieds will be competing for IMCA state, regional and national points. Track points will not be awarded.

While there is a $50 registration fee for all Modifieds competing, those drivers will receive a free pit pass for the event.

General grandstand admission for the August 6 event is $30. Tickets for kids 12 and under are $15. Those wishing to purchase grandstand tickets in advance will be able to do so during the next two weekly Saturday racing programs at the speedway. Tickets will be available for purchase at both the July 28 and August 4 events. Pit passes on August 6 are $35.

Both pit gates and grandstand open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:45 and qualifying to follow. The rain date is Tuesday, August 7.
